The SCL Team

Sam maintains a small but highly specialised construction team with decades of experience in building naturalistic landscapes.

Jim Pfeiffer grew up in Eltham surrounded by native gardens. Jim was the last to undertake work experience with Gordon Ford (in 1996), and he maintained 'Fülling', Gordon Ford's Eltham garden, with Gwen Ford until 2012. Jim studied horticulture at Burnley while still working in the industry and rejoined our team in 2005. An experienced operator on all machinery and with a natural eye for detail, Jim is highly proficient in the techniques we practice. A family man, Jim spend his weekends renovating and landscaping his own bush property.

Dean Maguire joined Sam Cox Landscape in 2014. While Dean worked on our projects in the past as a subcontractor we were excited to welcome him as a full time member of our crew. With twenty years experience in the landscape industry he is a specialist in paving and stone walls. His use of stone and natural slate materials is to the highest levels of workmanship. When he’s not working Dean enjoys time with his partner and kids, touring on his Harley Davidson and creating fine home brews.

Matt Spooner joined us at the beginning of 2016 as a mature age apprentice. His keen enthusiasm for horticulture and landscape design make him a valuable addition to the team. Matt has a passion for outdoor pursuits such as adventure travel, camping and surfing.

In 2018, we are pleased to introduce Patrick Ashton, our latest team member. Patrick has a bachelor degree in Environments (Major in Ecosystem Management) at The University of Melbourne and has previously worked as a horticulturalist. He takes the challenges around drawing people closer to nature seriously, particularly in the promotion of indigenous flora. Patrick’s interests include surfing, travel, coffee, cricket and books.
